Choose a Linger companion for the conversation you want today, rather than treating a personality description as a permanent compatibility label. A light exchange after work, a reflective question and a fictional scene ask for different kinds of interaction.
This guide covers MindCraftAI Apps’ Android product, Linger: AI Girlfriend & Chat. The developer presents several fictional companions with different styles. We have not tested those personalities in the app; the method below is an original way to turn a preference into a manageable first conversation.
Start with the kind of reply you want
Before choosing a companion, decide whether you want a question, a short reaction, an imaginative suggestion or a longer discussion. These are more useful instructions than asking an AI to understand you completely.
For example, you might write: “I want a light five-minute conversation about a fictional weekend. Give me two unusual options and ask which I would choose.” It provides a topic and a pace without disclosing your address, schedule or personal relationships.
If you want to reflect on an ordinary moment from your day, name the kind of response you want: “Ask one question before suggesting anything.” You can describe the situation generally. A generated reply is not professional advice or proof that the companion has a human understanding of your circumstances.
Use the stated style as a starting hypothesis
The store description names companions including Olivia, Ashley, Aisha and Charlotte and assigns them different conversational styles. Those descriptions tell you how the developer presents the characters; they do not establish how every reply will behave.
Read a style as a starting hypothesis: “This might fit the mood I want.” Then consider the exchange you actually receive. Avoid assuming that a warm description guarantees thoughtful advice, or that a playful description means every topic should become romantic.
If your preference changes during the week, choosing a different style is not a failure. The useful question is whether the current conversation serves the time and attention you want to give it.
Keep one topic consistent
A neutral topic helps you notice the difference between your preference and the subject itself. Try the same small fictional choice when you explore different styles.
A tiny town has room for one new public space. Would you choose a night garden or a reading room? Give one reason, then ask me what I would add.
This original example creates a choice, a reason and a next turn. You can judge whether you enjoy the amount of detail, the tone and the invitation to respond. You do not need to reveal private facts to do that.
Do not turn a single response into a scientific comparison. It is a practical check of your own experience at that moment, not proof that a character always writes one way.
Make one adjustment before changing everything
If the response is nearly useful, ask for the specific change you need. “Keep it to two sentences” addresses length. “Stay with the fictional town” addresses a topic drift. “Ask me one question instead of deciding for me” addresses the kind of participation you want.
Changing the companion, the topic and the instructions at once makes it difficult to know what helped. Keep the adjustment small enough that you can recognize its effect.
If the conversation still does not suit you, stop or choose another direction. You do not need to keep interacting to justify time already spent, and an AI character’s emotional language should not create an obligation to continue or buy something.
Keep a short fit note
After the conversation, write three things for yourself:
- The mood you wanted.
- The kind of response you preferred.
- One instruction you would reuse next time.
A useful note might say: “Light fictional choices; short answers; one follow-up question.” Avoid storing sensitive conversation content merely to remember a style preference.
Also keep a separate note about practical interruptions. If advertisements or access limits affected the session, that is a purchase question rather than a personality judgment. The ads, Premium and gifts guide helps separate those decisions.
The goal is a conversation that fits the moment. Choose a small subject, give it a clear shape and keep the decision to continue yours.
